Who We Are

The Method Machine Lab is an artistic playground committed to producing and presenting daring, relevant & illuminating experiments in performance in Ojai, CA. New play development, special events, full productions and community engagement are the cornerstones of the company mission. Led by Artistic Directors Rosie Gordon and David Henderson, The Lab's vision is to create a low hum of incubation, original educational experiences and big theater in small spaces.

Method Machine Lab was founded in January of 2024 in Ojai, California. The company is in Residence at Kim Maxwell Studio.

Her approach to theater is simple - make good art, and have a good time doing it. 


His approach to theater is simple - if it doesn't feel weird, you are not doing it right.  

Producing Artistic Director Rosie Gordon was born and raised in Ojai, and has been involved in theater for over 30 years. She spent her formative theater years in Ojai with Theater 150 and the Ojai Shakespeare Festival.  At the Ojai Shakespeare Festival, she played parts from Ariel to Beatrice, hanging lights and building sets. At Theater 150, Rosie ran lights, took classes and participated in the Ojai Playwrights Conference youth workshop led by Kim Maxwell. Since returning to Ojai several years ago, she's acted in local productions of The Revolutionists, Rapture Blister Burn, Lobby Hero,The Moors, and Rabbit Hole; directed productions of Becky's New Car at Ojai Arts Center Theater and The Fantasticks for Ojai Performing Arts Theater; produced Rope, Deer (OACT) and Into the Woods (OPAT).

Rosie's work at Method Machine Lab include directing the company's inagural production of Jen Silverman's Witch and a reading of Josh Harmon's Signifant Other.

Producing Executive Director David Henderson is new to the Ojai and excitied to bring his craft to this city.  Locally, he directed The New Century at Santa Paula Theater Center; Deer and co-directed Red at Ojai Arts Center Theater and a workshop of be careful what you wish for by Isobel Roth.


As the Artistic Director of METHOD MACHINE (Rochester, NY) David Henderson produced and directed more than 25 productions including Spoon River Rochester, a site-specific performance using hundreds of performers in an immersive, one of a kind experience at the 2014 Rochester Fringe. Featured productions include ShakesBLOOD, Angels in America (Parts I & II), Edge, The Lipstick Massacre with Pandora Boxx and Kasha Davis. Additional productions include work at Geva Theatre Center, JCC Center Stage of Rochester and Screen Plays as well as NYTW and chashama in NYC. David is a founding Board member of the Rochester Fringe Festival, now one of the largest in the country. 


As a writer, plays include include Pyotr & Bob, ShakesBLOOD and The Gay Fiancee. Two recent commissions from Monroe Community College and Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus. David graduated from Goddard College with an MFA in Screenwriting and Playwriting. 

Comany Manager Hanah Luyet

Company Manager Hannah Luyet is a born and raised Oxnard, CA local who got their BA in Theatre and Performance from San Diego State University in 2023. As a wearer of many hats she has been seen around Ojai working as an actor, stage manager, ASM, assistant lighting designer, props master,sound board operator, light board operator, and everything in between. She also acted in Method Machine Lab’s inaugural production of Witch by Jen Silverman this Spring 2024. She is passionate about cross disciplinary training in local theatre and strives to offer opportunities to anyone who feels passionate about learning how to create quirky, innovative performances.

Her approach to theatre is simple - do what you love and share it with others.
